Cold Northcott Wind Farm Repowering

HT Ecology provided the full suite of ecological inputs for the repowering of Cold Northcott Wind Farm at Laneast in Cornwall. The scheme replaces the existing turbines with 22 modern turbines and is capable of generating around 10% of Cornwall's energy needs, making a significant contribution to the county's renewable energy and net zero targets.

We led the ecological inputs, including the bat and bird surveys, collision risk modelling, the Biodiversity Net Gain assessment and Ecology Chapter of the Environmental Statement. Our input shaped the turbine layout from an early stage. Working alongside the design team, we moved turbines away from the adjacent County Wildlife Site, where the existing turbines had stood, and set them back from hedgerows to reduce impacts on bats and birds. Our early involvement allowed the scheme to demonstrate that its ecological effects had been avoided and reduced by design which assisted in obtaining planning consent.
